Date: February 20, 2016

Venue: University of Southern California

The Association of Professors and Scholars of Iranian Heritage (APSIH) has invited researchers to speak about their recent findings and experiences as entrepreneurs in the area of big data at a seminar to be held at the University of Southern California, in Los Angeles.

Dr. Atefeh Farzindar, CEO NLP Technologies will give a presentation titled Natural Language Processing for Big Data in Social Media.

Abstract:

Managing big data, in particular social media data collections that are very large, is a complex problem that becomes difficult to address using traditional data processing methods. Natural Language Processing (NLP) and machine learning tools are promising avenues to solve big data and user-generated content issues. This talk focuses on innovations and several NLP applicationssuch as opinion mining and emotion analysis, geo-location detection, event and topic detection, entity linking and disambiguation, summarization and machine translation for social media. This provides the opportunity for new applications that use the information publicly available in various fields, such as social media monitoring for healthcare, finance, security and defense, business intelligence, and politics. In this context, NLP Technologies Inc. has developed a technology for the automated analysis of social media data. TRANSLI Social Media Analytics and monitoring, is an online visual analytics system designed to provide social intelligence from news and other events from Twitter.

NLP Technologies Inc. is a Canadian company founded in 2005 and that expanded to California in 2014. The company specializes in natural language processing, NLP-based search engines, translation technologies and services, social media analytics, and automatic summarization.
